Portugal’s Spaceworkers Architects recently completed the refurbishment of an old townhouse in Oporto, Portugal’s second city not far from the Atlantic coast. Much like the famed Port wine which comes from this region, Spaceworks has produced a fine, classic home with influence from the region’s long history. The interior of the home is at once contemporary and classical, including traditional influences and modern furnishings. Custom cabinetry has been built into the walls of the master bedroom, the office and the kitchen, providing plenty of room for embellishment by the client with knick knacks, books and otherwise. The attention to detail in the home is stunning, from the furnishing to the lighting, floor covering and more. Beyond the modern touches of the home, Spaceworkers has carefully maintained the structure’s traditional elements. The entry hallway is adorned with beautiful stained wood, detailed tile work and accents in its ceiling. The exterior of the home remains true to its history, with subtle signs of the upgrades it has received within. In total, this home by Spacework Architects for Marta Massada and Joao Silva is a success in design. Should we find ourselves in a townhome of our own in the future, you can bet we’ll draw on this very home for inspiration of our own decoration process.
